Syringa vulgaris - Blush White Classic Lilac
- deciduous shrub with dark green leaves
- very fragrant clusters of single white blooms in spring from light pink buds
- blooms in midseason for lilacs; flowers are edible!
- great in full sun to part shade
- grows 12-16' tall and 8-12' wide
- flowers on old wood, so only prune after flowering
- grows in zones 3-7
- ships bareroot, wrapped in a soil-less medium to keep the roots damp
- ships in cool spring, fall, or winter seasons; not during summer
Recommended companions:
- Spring bulbs (such as Daffodil & Hyacinth) offer color before leaves emerge
- Clematis vine to climb up through the branches and offer a second round of showy blooms in late spring and/or summer
- Hosta perennials to fill the shady side underneath lilac branches, suppressing weeds with interesting leaf styles and summer flowers; low-lying lilac branches may help protect these appealing perennials from critter attack
- Hardy Chrysanthemum perennials to fill the sunny side underneath the lilac branches, suppressing weeds and offering additional blooms in fall in a spot somewhat protected from rains (to allow their flowers to look nice longer)
